$4.6M US DoD Grant: Neuroimaging Research with Vielight technology by the U of Utah

June 30th, 2026

We are incredibly proud to share that Vielight itPBM technology has been selected by the University of Utah’s Neurology department for a landmark $4.6M research grant from the U.S. Department of War.

Following brain resilience and brain imaging research with NCAA Division I football players, Vielight technology has been selected as the sole intervention for a landmark n=300 clinical trial.

This project—supported by a $4.6M grant from the U.S. Department of Defense—aims to build on University of Utah findings where advanced DTI and MRI scans demonstrated significant resilience effects with intranasal-transcranial photobiomodulation.

The Opportunity: This grant represents a relatively small investment by the US DoD in a technology that could be a scalable way to restore cognition, improve lives, and potentially save billions in long-term care costs.

Watch media coverage below:

Led by Dr. Elisabeth Wilde and Dr. Carrie Esopenko, this research will use advanced MRI to and Vielight itPBM technology to provide the protection and resilience our heroes deserve.

We are honored that our technology is the clinical foundation for this mission.
