Dr. Lew Lim Presents Newest Brain PBM Research at SBMT 2026

April 19th, 2026

SBMT 2026 — the 23rd Annual Neurotech Convention of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics — convened April 16–19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, bringing together neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, engineers, military health leaders, and industry to accelerate real-world solutions in brain health.

Vielight founder and CEO Dr. Lew Lim was a featured speaker, presenting Vielight’s latest science and clinical evidence behind their patented intranasal and transcranial photobiomodulation (itPBM) — a brain light therapy delivery system that now anchors 30+ peer-reviewed studies and 800+ research participants worldwide.

A central thread of Dr. Lim’s talk was the populations bearing the heaviest cumulative load of head impact — firefighters, athletes, and veterans — and the multi-year research effort Vielight has built around them. Through ongoing collaborations with the University of Utah, BYU, Harvard, and Boston University, the company is examining how its intranasal and transcranial protocol affects the brain in the wake of repeated head impact. It’s one of the most substantial bodies of research in brain photobiomodulation to date, and one of the clearest signals of where the field is heading next.

See the most recent publication here, which followed NCAA D1 football players using Vielight across a full season of repeated head impacts.

And the work continues! An ongoing $4.6M Department of Defense–funded study that features Vielight technology is building on those results, aimed at establishing a new standard of care for TBI. Read more here.

We received incredible support and inquiries following Dr. Lim’s talk, and we’re grateful to have had the chance to share what we’ve been working on and to hear what’s happening across the rest of the field. Looking forward to staying in touch with the people we met in Los Angeles.
