Brain stimulation involves the use of a stimulant to activate or inhibit one or more brain functions. The stimulant can be invasive or noninvasive. Thus, brain or neurostimulation using noninvasive stimulants falls into noninvasive brain stimulation category. Therefore, brain stimulation using invasive stimulants falls into invasive neurostimulation category.
Photobiomodulation is a non-invasive form of neurostimulation. This form of photobiomodulation has a title of transcranial photobiomodulation or tPBM, and is the least invasive method of brain stimulation. It utilizes the near-infrared light (NIR) to penetrate through the cranial and to deliver the NIR energy to the neurones.
Brain light therapy or tPBM is undergoing extensive research and is a part of numerous clinical trials and research studies. This research has a variety of directions and focus. Some researchers study effects of tPBM on neurodegenerative disorders, like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Others, study applications of tPBM for athletic and physical performance. Thus, potential applications of tPBM are expending as scientists learn more and understand its effects better.
Vielight is playing an important role in making tPBM accessible to consumers. Vielight is a leader in design and manufacturing of user-friendly brain stimulation devices for home-use. Furthermore, all Vielight devices are classified as general wellness devices according to the FDA guidelines. Last, but not least, some of Vielight photobiomodulation devices are studied in a number of clinical trials and research studies for various indications.
