Introducing the Vie-AI Lab
AI-Enabled BrainNeuralTranscranial Photobiomodulation
We are investigating the optimization of brain functions by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the Vielight photobiomodulation (PBM) ecosystem and cloud.
At the Vielight AI Brain laboratory (“Vie-AI Lab“), we conduct research to translate our findings into machine learning (ML) algorithms.
As the original pioneers in this space, we were granted the patent for closed loop AI-based neuromodulation via photobiomodulation in 2023.

CEO and Founder

The patent recognizes PBM as an effective way to stimulate the brain, capable of modulating it to achieve targeted outcomes, which can be expressed in EEG waveforms, fMRI imaging or clinical measures through brain-computer interfaces (BCI)
As an example, it could cover a device like the Neuro Pro, which comprehensively directs near infrared (NIR) light energy into the brain from a combination of transcranial (through the skull) and intranasal (via the nasal channels) locations.
The device can work in combination with a diagnostic tool (such as EEG and fMRI imaging) to modulate brain function intelligently, automatically, and unrestricted by geographical distances (through the cloud). It is supported by cloud-based backend data analysis and reporting.

Research First
The brain is a complex organ, consisting of about 100 billion neurons and 100 trillion connections. Its complex functions can be expressed as oscillations and waveforms.
We were the first to discover that NIR light energy of sufficient power density can affect the brain in specific ways, as represented by EEG and other brain imaging.
We invest heavily in research and clinical trials to offer the best product for home-use.
Fundamental research
Our research has covered living cells and microtubules (which is an important component to support brain cells of various types)
They also cover biomarkers and metabolites that reflect the health of brain functions and diseases.
Microtubule abnormalities are found in many neurodegenerative pathologies, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

We have invested in the most research in the field of brain photobiomodulation to ensure our technology works for our users.
At present, our technology is supported by the most published peer-reviewed scientific evidence in this field of brain photobiomodulation.
A Brief History of Photobiomodulation and Neuromodulation
2016
First discovery of neuromodulation
We were the first in the world to discover the neuromodulating effects of brain photobiomodulation through experimentation.
This video took place in 2016, at the ISNR conference with Thomas Feiner, BCIA and Dr Tom Collura, PhD, Brainmaster Founder, demonstrating neuromodulation via photobiomodulation in real time.
2018
Dr. Lew files the AI-closed loop patent for photobiomodulation.
Dr. Lew Lim, Vielight CEO and Founder, invents the idea for an AI-based closed loop to optimize photobiomodulation parameters.
2019
World-first publication of neuromodulation with photobiomodulation
Our neuromodulation study was the first to demonstrate neuromodulation effects via photobiomodulation in a peer-reviwed, high-impact journal.
This was based on 40Hz Gamma modulation with the Neuro Gamma at 810nm at 100 mW/cm2.
